Ensuring the future
The BIKA family is passionate about wood, but know only too well that irresponsible harvesting and production can threaten some of the most beautiful and desirable types of wood.
BIKA works only with wood with a known and proven provenance. BIKA uses trusted suppliers of the highest integrity to procure timber that has been expertly conditioned and is suited over the long term to the environmental conditions in which its products will be used. BIKA’s aim always is to meet client expectations while ensuring long-term sustainability of supply and helping to conserve limited or endangered species.
For more than 20 years, BIKA has utilized only non-toxic materials and applied eco-friendly processes.
Boards and finishing materials imported by BIKA have very low emission levels, made to specifications that satisfy Japanese and European standards. This avoids formaldehyde being emitted into the house over the entire lifespan of the furniture, as is the case with boards made to lesser standards, and with the commonly used, but internationally banned, MELAMIK or acid curing finishing process
BIKA also uses UV curing, the strongest form of curing, to deliver high levels of scratch resistance with a very low usage of solvent. Europe bans the use of excessive solvent as it is not environmentally friendly.
By adhering to international standards, which are far stricter than those currently applied locally, BIKA not only produces furniture suitable for export but also provides Indonesian customers with all the benefits and environmental safeguards that can otherwise only be gained through imported items.
